Until very recent years, I hardly knew the difference between marketing and sales. The significance of being a successful marketer does not strike home until you have actually completed a few of those SALES!
And it is the sales or membership fees that put the bread on the table. It may be fun to socialize and get to know people and processes in forums and to follow people on Twitter or Digg or other social media. But if sooner or later you do not start to see tangible results with your “fun” it will always be exactly that – fun – not serious, not work, not results oriented.
